It's not the same as the carbonising, turbo popping, 16v 1.6 TDCi fitted to the Mk2s. The injectors are crap though, as with all modern piezo injectors you're lucky to get 50k from them. This Ford Focus engine ECU is a very common failure for vehicles built between 2004 & 2011 especially for the Ford Focus 1.8 & 2.0 litre models built in 2007, failure will cause intermittent misfires, poor/rough running and activation of the 'limp-mode' function. Commonly you will also find that the engine won’t rev over 2000rpm along with Mk2 Focus - Engine malfunction and acceleration reduced. What happens is that, when driving at a constant speed with my foot lightly on the throttle, typically at just below 1500 rpm, the engine judders / jerks almost as if the fuel is getting to it in little packets rather than a constant flow. I have a 2011 1.6 TDCI Focus I got the car with 40 something k miles on the clock I drove 100 miles a day for 6+ months its up at 66+k now. Until this point no issues it started first time every time not even a niggle. The closest thing to a problem I had was rear brakes jamming in cold weather.
I geared down but power kept on dropping. I then turned the engine off and back on, it started driving fine for a second or two before the lack of power kicked back in. There is no CEL on the dash displaying and no other warning lights/symptoms. I used recovery to get back home.
