A homage to Chompski's adventure has already been added to Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life: Alyx and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in the form of a new achievement, too. It's called Gnome Alone, with the description: "If you are reading this achievement, Gabe Newell has successfully launched Gnome Chompski into space." This wasn't all for lols, though.

I'm actually curious as well, s I really enjoyed this achievement (I remember making fun videos for both the Half-Life 2 Episode 2, and Left 4 Dead 2 videos sadly copyright strikes destroyed one of them in the early days of these strikes)

Apparently you can get this from any map or mode (means any campaign or survival or whatever) and just need to wait until it to trigger. You cannot get the achievement if your character is dead on arrival.
